Support for Tasmanian small businesses reaches $160 million

Jane Howlett,Minister for Small Business

The Tasmanian Liberal Government remains committed to supporting Tasmania’s small business sector as our businesses and community adapt to operating with open borders.

We have provided nation-leading support throughout the pandemic, including about $160 million COVID-19 specific support programs.

The first round of our Micro and Small Business – Border Closure Critical Support Grant, which closed in November, saw over 3,000 eligible businesses shared in more than $43 million, giving those businesses the confidence to navigate the challenging and uncertain period.

I am pleased to announce that round two of this program has seen an additional $29.7 million provided to over 2,900 businesses. That’s a total of more than $72 million in direct support for small businesses in Tasmania to deal with the challenges associated with recent border closures.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government worked closely with the Commonwealth Government to supercharge our Micro and Small Business – Border Closure Critical Grant program support for Tasmanian businesses when they needed it most.

As we have always said, the Tasmanian Liberal Government remains committed to ongoing support when and where it is needed.
