Supporting inclusion through our LGBTIQ+ Grants Program

Nic Street,Minister for Community Services and Development

The Tasmanian Liberal Government wants our community to be a confident and inclusive one where all people are treated fairly, with respect and have an equal opportunity to engage in Tasmanian life.

Our 2021 election commitments included an increase in funding to help increase acceptance of diversity, access to services and participation for LGBTIQ+ Tasmanians, allocating $60,000 each year to the LGBTIQ+ Grants Program.

In consultation with the LGBTIQ+ Whole-of-Government Reference Group, the 2022 Program provided funding in two focus areas:

*”Stories matter: Telling LGBTIQ+ Tasmanian Stories”, highlighting diversity and the impact of intersectional identities within the LGBTIQ+ community through the mediums of writing, film, art, photography, painting, sculpture, or theatre; and

*General projects.

I am pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s grant round include:

* Women’s Health Education Network Inc;

* Hobart Out Tennis;

*Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania; and

* Documentary Australia Foundation.

The full list of the successful applicants will be available on the Department of Communities Tasmania’s website at www.communities.tas.gov.au.

We are also supporting Working it Out to administer a $10,000 community grants program in recognition of the important work that individuals/communities undertake at the local level.

We want to ensure our important work continues across government, and our investment in the biggest survey of the LGBTIQ+ community ever undertaken in Tasmania will provide guidance on how we can continue to ensure the LGBTIQ+ community is included and has equal access to programs and services, across government.

I thank everyone who gave their valuable insights into their experiences in this survey, and we look forward to delivering the Action Plan later this year.
