Supporting our Pastoral Sector: $25,000 Rebates for Drought-Affected NT Farmers

Government rebates of up to$25,000 are now available to eligible drought-affected Northern Territoryfarmers, for the purchase and installation of emergency water infrastructure.

NT Minister for PrimaryIndustries and Resources Paul Kirby will today attend the 35thannual Northern Territory Cattlemens Association (NTCA) conference in Darwin,where he will outline how eligible farmers can apply for the rebates.

The Australian Government hasmade $3 million available to Northern Territory farmers as part of its On-farmEmergency Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme, which stemmed from the 2018National Drought Summit.

The scheme will be administered by the NT Department ofPrimary Industries and Resources and will support producers to invest in newlivestock watering facilities such as bores, piping, tanks, troughs, pumps andfittings to better manage livestock access to water during dry weatherconditions.

Mr Kirby will today take theopportunity to listen to farmers at the years largest gathering of livestockproducers at this years NTCA conference.

The theme of this yearsconference is High Steaks and discussions will focus on the currentopportunities and challenges faced by Northern Australias cattle industry.

TheTerritory Labor Governments number one priority is jobs for Territorians andwe recognisethe critical role the pastoral industry plays in regional economies.

Feed conditions havedramatically deteriorated in several NT districts in the past four months, withthe rainfall the lowest on record in many districts, particularly in the BarklyTablelands and Central Australia.

The Territory LaborGovernment thanks the Australian Government for this helping hand for ourlivestock farmers and is proud to administer the scheme through DPIR.

The scheme will help boost animal welfare and support a healthypastoral sector, which, in turn contributes to a healthy Territory economy.
