We are working hard to accommodate every young Kingston sports person, regardless of gender.
Part of that effort involves upgrading older pavilions to support fast-growing female sport.
We recently officially launched the revamped amenities at Le Page Park and Chelsea Recreation Reserve, adding female-friendly changerooms and toilets.
This is an important step in providing the necessary infrastructure to give women and girls equal access to sports, with sporting spaces where they feel they too belong.
Cheltenham Panthers Junior Football club, Le Page Cricket Club, Chelsea Football/Netball Club, Chelsea Junior Football Club and Chelsea Cricket Club now have changerooms and amenities suitable for all participants.
Council’s $720,000 dollars spend on these projects was boosted by a $280,000 grant from Sport and Recreation Victoria, proving that different levels of government working together can benefit grass roots sports and strive towards sporting equality.
The AFL contributed $50,000 to the work at Le Page.

In July we submitted four key projects for Victorian Government funding under the current round of the Community Local Sports Infrastructure Fund 2022.
The projects include the construction of female-friendly changerooms at Walter Galt Reserve in Mordialloc.
We are currently advocating for funding for implementation of our Bonbeach Sports Reserve Pavilion Plan and Namatjira Park Masterplan, both of which will include welcoming facility for all ages, genders and abilities.
