Supporting young people

TILT 3.jpg

By offering diverse learning experiences, career advice, and mentors, the Learning Hub will build aspiration and interest in local education, training and work pathways.

In March, 40 local businesses and young people in Maryborough, came together and identified the need to tackle a gap in employment in Central Goldfields Shire with no post-secondary training to support young adults to stay within their communities.

The outcome was the endorsement of a Learning Hub to provide young people with employment opportunities.

In preparation for the Learning Hub, invested stakeholders will run pilot projects to test key program features such as industry tours, after- school student mentoring, and study spaces.

Co-designing a Learning Hub is a significant milestone for Maryborough and is part of a broader strategy for change facilitated by the Triggering Innovation Leadership Transformation Research and Development group (TILT R&D).

The partnership is between La Trobe University, The Australian National University (ANU), and Fraunhofer IESE, who have provided industry 5.0+ technical support from Germany.

This partnership demonstrates an ongoing commitment to continue supporting Maryborough to build its Learning Hub and other regional innovation projects in the Central Goldfields Shire.

YOUTH-LEAD CLIMATE CONVERSATIONS

After participating in Climate Conversation Month last October, this year, our Youth Council is leading the conversation!

The environment and climate change is one of the Youth Council’s five focus areas, and the group is eager to build on the Climate Conversation initiative piloted by the Climate Action Stewarding Group (CASG) last year.

Planning has begun, with support from CASG, to design an event for young people to share their thoughts about climate change.

With intentions to partner with Highview College and Maryborough Education Centre, the event is planned to run during term three.

The youth-led climate conversations will raise awareness of local climate change issues and opportunities and provide our young people with an opportunity to highlight action priorities from their perspective.

We look forward to sharing the outcomes of these conversations.

YOUTH FEST

Central Goldfields will recognise our local young people’s contributions to our community during the Victorian Youth Fest in September.

Thanks to the Victorian Government’s FReeZA program, we’ve secured $2000 in funding for a youth-led, local event during the month-long festival.

Exceptional young people nominated by the community will be officially recognised at a ceremony hosted by the Mayor and Youth Mayor and highlighted on the Shire’s social media accounts.
