S.W.A.T descends on Manly

Northern Beaches

They’re back! Council’s Special Works and Transformation Team or S.W.A.T as they’re affectionately known are making their assault on Manly CBD and surrounds next week.

The 50 strong contingent of Council staff will carry out a spring clean of the Corso and surrounding areas including Queenscliff kicking off on Monday.

It will include everything from sweeping, pressure cleaning the shop fronts and bins in the Corso, painting, gardening, planting as well as adding mulch to the exercise areas at Queenscliff Lagoon, Manly Kiosk and the Little Manly Gas Works.

Mayor Michael Regan said similar blitzes have been successfully carried out in the past.

“We have had a bit of fun with this by calling it a S.W.A.T Team but actually our aim is to get in and do the serious business of getting the Manly Corso and surrounds in top shape for summer.

“While we have crews in Manly doing a great job every day, this is an opportunity to get them all together in a three-day blitz to knock off all those little jobs that can really make a difference, in one go.

“With our freedom back, we’ll again see millions of visitors heading to Manly over the next few months, as well as locals enjoying all Manly has to offer so it’s a great time to get this important work done.”

The S.W.A.T team will strike Manly CBD and surrounds on 18-20 October and will be distinguishable in hi-vis vests mainly operating on the ground between 7am and 3pm, however some cleansing staff will be onsite from 4am and Parks staff will commence work at 6am.

Stay tuned for more S.W.A.Ts rolling out in other areas across the Northern Beaches in the coming months.
