A 24-year-old Western Sydney woman is expected to appear in Parramatta Local Court today (17 January 2022), charged with threatening to kill and to cause serious harm.
Officers from the AFP High Risk Terrorism Offenders area, with the assistance of NSW Police, arrested the woman at her home in the Sydney suburb of Granville late last night (16 January 2022).
She was charged with:
- One count of using a carriage service to make a threat to kill, contrary to section 474.15 of the Criminal Code (Cth), which has a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment; and
- Two counts of using a carriage service to make a threat to cause serious harm, contrary to section 474.15 of the Criminal Code (Cth), which has a maximum penalty of seven years imprisonment.
Police will allege the woman – who is the subject of a confirmed Control Order – sent text messages threatening to physically harm a person known to her.
The AFP, NSW Police Force and partner agencies use Commonwealth and State legislative measures, including Control Orders, to ensure the ongoing safety of the Australian community.
The AFP was granted an Interim Control Order for this woman in the Federal Court in New South Wales on 24 November 2021 and it was confirmed on 2 December 2021.
