Take a walk along the Nambour Heritage Soundtrail this month to be part of the greatest global celebration of sound walks, Sound Walk September, plus you could win one of two $100 vouchers to The Events Centre Caloundra.
A sound walk is any walk that focuses on listening to the environment, with or without technology, or adds to the experience through the use of sound or voice.
Now in its third year, Sound Walk September celebrates those walks that transport us to another time and place through brilliantly designed, produced and written pieces that draw you into other worlds.
Community Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the Nambour Heritage Soundtrail brought together community heritage, great local personalities and the sheer fun of discovery.
“Sharing our region’s heritage is a great way to potentially exchange knowledge and experiences; it can also be part of a really satisfying way to help bond to a place,” Cr Baberowski said.
“We all love and remember stories, people and things from our past and the free Nambour Heritage Soundtrail is such an accessible way to enjoy some of those engaging stories told by locals.”
The Nambour Heritage Soundtrail is a GPS activated, audio story trail that features 18 stories of Nambour told by locals including Bob Collins, June Upton, Brent Miller, Lyndon Davis and many more.
With narration by Powderfinger’s Jon Coghill, sound design by award-winning producer Hamish Sewell and stunning backings by local band Biscuit, it’s a contemporary take on a truly historic town.
Along the walk you’ll visit significant Nambour sites such as Collins Café, Vogue Cinema, BCC Supermarkets, C-Square and Bayards and learn about the town’s history.
Division 10 Councillor David Law said the Nambour Heritage Soundtrail was a wonderful collection of stories and memories of Nambour.
“From the sugar mill, beauty quests and an old Vogue cinema, to the infamy of Bayards Corner and Collins Café, the Nambour Heritage Soundtrail is a fantastic and innovative way to highlight the town’s diverse heritage,” Cr Law said.
“I encourage everyone to download the app, grab their headphones, enjoy a walk along the trail and discover something new about where we live.”
