Taking Tasmania’s best to UK and Europe

Will Hodgman,Premier & Minister for Advanced Manufacturing and Defence Industries

Tasmania’s world-class capabilities in the defence, maritime and Antarctic sectors will be the focus of a five-day trade and investment delegation to the United Kingdom and Europe in November.

The delegation will include the Tasmania Defence Advocate and representatives from Tasmanian businesses to pursue trade, export and investment opportunities, and support our economy and more local jobs.

The mission follows on from a strong presence at the Pacific 2019 International Maritime Exposition in Sydney last week, where Tasmania’s largest ever contingent showcased their capabilities, products and services at one of the biggest maritime trade shows in the world.

Tasmania’s reputation in defence, maritime and Antarctic industries is continuing to grow, and our Trade Strategy clearly states that trade missions are an important way to further build awareness of our capabilities and secure further opportunities with global trading partners.

The five-day trade visit will include a visit to Thales’ Underwater Systems facility in France, and the Navantia shipyard in Spain to build ties and develop opportunities for Tasmanian exports in the civil maritime, advanced manufacturing and technology sectors.

The delegation will also meet with French Polar Institute in Brest and participate in the Renewable Energy Roundtable with the High Commission and Australia-UK Chamber of Commerce in the UK.
