Tasmanian Government

More than 100 judges from across the country have descended on Hobart this week for the annual Judicial Plenary of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.

Attorney-General Guy Barnett said judges would hear from leading experts on family and sexual violence, child welfare and judgment writing, supporting professional development and the sharing of knowledge and experience across the judiciary.

“Our courts play a vital role in upholding the rule of law, ensuring access to justice and maintaining public confidence in our legal system,” the Attorney-General said.

“It is a privilege to welcome members of the national judiciary to Tasmania for this important event.

“Hosting the Judicial Plenary provides an opportunity to showcase Tasmania’s hospitality and all that our State has to offer, while supporting the continued development of our justice system.

“I welcome the Chief Justice of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, the Honourable William Alstergren AO, and fellow judges to Hobart.”

The Judicial Plenary of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia will be held in Hobart from 14 to 16 October 2026.
