Tasmanian Government welcomes plan to grow small businesses in Tasmania

Minister for Small Business

Madeleine Ogilvie,

The Tasmanian Liberal Government welcomes the Federal Liberal Government’s pledge to drive the creation of an additional 400,000 small businesses across Australia over the next five years.

We are proud that Tasmania is already home to almost 40,000 vibrant small businesses in all corners of the State, and this announcement by the Federal Government could see a push towards 10,000 additional small businesses in Tasmania.

We know that more businesses in Tasmania means more jobs for Tasmanians.

Since the start of the pandemic, our small business sector have received more than $165 million in pandemic-specific support, which included more than $73 million in direct support to small businesses through our Supercharged Micro and Small Business – Border Closure Critical Grant program. This program was jointly funded by the Tasmanian and the Commonwealth Governments.

Our small business sector is central to growing our economy, creating jobs for our community and securing Tasmania’s future

When our businesses are doing well it means our community is doing well, which is why we will continue to work closely with the Federal Liberal Government to invest and harness the significant opportunities we have available to improve the lives of all Tasmanians.

Today’s announcement sends a clear and strong message of continued support for our important small business owners, and underscores our commitment to help Tasmanians launch new ventures.
