Madeleine Ogilvie, Minister for Corrections and Rehabilitation

Matthew Shadwick, a Court Diversion Officer with the Court Mandated Diversion Program is Tasmania’s recipient of the Australian Corrections Medal in the Australia Day Honours List for 2024.

Mr Shadwick’s award recognises his significant contribution to the success of the CMD Program over the last 10 years and his commitment to meeting the needs of a complex and high needs client base.

Minister for Corrections, Madeleine Ogilvie, said Mr Shadwick works with participants to identify offending behaviours and substance abuse patterns with the aim of reducing recidivism.

“Mr Shadwick has spent his career advocating for his clients and is committed to providing opportunities for rehabilitation,” Minister Ogilvie said.

“He holds a strong belief that offenders can improve their personal circumstances and has worked tirelessly to set and obtain goals to affect positive change and achieve desirable outcomes.

“He has made an ongoing and meaningful contribution to offender rehabilitation which has resulted in many of his clients successfully graduating from the CMD program over the years.”

As well as being a subject matter expert with an extensive understanding of relevant legislation, policies and practices, Mr Shadwick’s high level skills and commitment have seen him successfully take on senior management positions with teams across the organisation.

“Mr Shadwick is respected by his peers for his strong team-oriented practice and natural leadership skills, regularly offering training and mentorship to fellow colleagues, as well as his ethical and committed approach to his work.”

The Australian Corrections Medal is awarded to one Tasmanian recipient each year as part of the Australia Day Honours List.

Mr Shadwick will be presented with his award by Tasmania’s Governor in a ceremony to be held at Government House later this year.
