Tasmanian Renewable Energy UK Roundtable

Will Hodgman,Premier

Tasmania’s world leading capabilities in renewable energy was the focus of a Renewable Energy Roundtable hosted by the Australia United Kingdom Chamber of Commerce in London.

Renewable energy is one of our state’s greatest economic opportunities for the next decade, with our Battery of the Nation and second interconnector projects set to create 2,400 new jobs and inject $6.5 billion into the Tasmanian economy over the coming years.

Tasmania is on track to be 100 per cent self-sufficient in renewables by 2022.

The Roundtable also provided an important forum to present the Tasmanian Government’s new draft Tasmanian Renewable Hydrogen Action Plan, which outlines our commitment to establishing a renewable hydrogen industry in Tasmania.

Australia’s hydrogen export market is estimated to rise to between $2.6 billion and $13.4 billion by 2040. In an increasingly carbon conscious world, some of the biggest global companies are moving to a sustainable, renewable energy future.

My Government is acting to position our state to secure more investment, business and jobs as the nation’s renewable energy powerhouse.
