Tasmanians reminded to have a bushfire plan in place

Mark Shelton,Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management

I would like to thank Tasmanians for their vigilance during the total fire ban in our southern region which ended at 2am today, and particularly thank our Tasmania Fire Service teams for their continuing and incredible efforts to keep Tasmanians safe.

Severe and Very High fire danger conditions yesterday saw Tasmania face the first real test of 2021 and thanks to early preparation and the Rapid Weight of Response strategy carried out, the fires were detected and contained early.

With the Summer bushfire season now upon us, ongoing vigilance and awareness remains critical and this includes monitoring the fire danger in your area.

Tasmanians are also encouraged to have a 5-minute bushfire plan to better understand their bushfire risk and prepare their properties for the event of a bushfire.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to keeping Tasmanians safer from the threat of bushfires, which is why the State Budget invested $17.6 million in a comprehensive package of mitigation initiatives.

We are delivering a clear plan for bushfire prevention across our state, because we know that when landowners, industry, farmers and the wider community are supported in this way, all Tasmanians will be safer.
