TasPorts hits record results

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Infrastructure and Transport

Delivering the best financials results since its inception in 2006, Tasports has recorded a $12 million consolidated net profit for 2018-19.

This is a great achievement that reflects the growth and the strength of the Tasmanian economy.

Freight volumes continued to grow, with 15.6 million tonnes passing through TasPorts operated statewide ports during the reporting period.

These figures are the highest freight volumes seen since the financial crisis in 2008 and represent a 3 per cent growth from the previous financial year.

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is delivering our plan to boost the economy across all parts of the state and create jobs. TasPorts is a major contributor to this plan with the company delivering strong results for the fourth year in a row.

The fact is that the Hodgman Liberal Government is working with industry to grow confidence, investment, employment and the economy of Tasmania. TasPorts are part of this growth and is itself enabling growth in forestry, mining, agriculture, tourism.

I thank the Board, management and workforce of TasPorts for these positive outcomes.
