Tassie flies high on world stage

Will Hodgman,Premier

Tasmania’s world-class inland fishing will be on the international stage this month, as the world’s best anglers descend on our state for the 2019 World Fly Fishing Championships.

The Championships will lure teams from 23 countries, highlighting the magnificence of Tasmania’s unrivalled natural environment, our world class fisheries in the most spectacular of settings.

More than 1000 visitors are expected to travel to Tasmania during the event, staying an average of 14 days each, which will also be a major boost for local businesses in regional economies.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has provided $100,000 to support the event, along with assistance from the Inland Fisheries Services, Events and Tourism Tasmania.

We have also delivered $300,000 to build and upgrade community amenities at popular fishing locations around the state.

Our inland fisheries are excellently managed, are one of our State’s great assets, and will be the perfect arena for the competition.

We warmly welcome all competitors and supporters to Tasmania for World Fly Fishing Championships.
