Taste of Summer comes to Hobart waterfront this festive season

Peter Gutwein,Premier

A Taste of Tasmania style event, to be known as the Taste of Summer, will return to Hobart’s waterfront this Christmas/New Year period following a successful Expression of Interest process.

The Taste of Summer will be run by a private consortium, Pinpoint, a group of local business people with experience and skill in the tourism, hospitality and event management, successful in their bid under the EOI process.

Premier Peter Gutwein said this was fantastic news for locals and businesses following the cancellation of last year’s event.

“Getting out on the waterfront over the holiday period is an iconic part of Tasmania’s social calendar, and the Taste of Summer will ensure this can continue to be an much-loved part of the summer calendar that supports our visitor economy, and that Tasmanians can continue to enjoy,” the Premier said.

“The Taste of Summer event will run in a similar way to what has been so successful in previous years, showcasing our fantastic Tasmanian produce and entertainment for locals and visitors alike.

“The State Government will provide the use of PW1 and contribute $1.4 million towards the event this year recognising the importance of activating the waterfront over the holiday period to businesses, locals and our economy.

“Importantly, the event will be operated in a COVID-Safe way, with more details to be released closer to the event, and we welcome the consortium’s passion for the event, especially given the ongoing uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and large public gatherings.”

Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said this was a great outcome for the State Government, the Hobart City Council, and everyone who enjoys taking part in the Taste each year.

‘The City of Hobart is thrilled to have partnered with State Government to secure this year’s Taste style event. Residents and visitors will now be able to look forward to a food and wine event that showcases produce from across Tasmania at a wonderful time of the year in Hobart,’ the Lord Mayor said.

‘In addition to providing a summer activation program on and around the waterfront; the City of Hobart will contribute in the order of $300,000 in in-kind support to the Taste of Summer event to ensure its success.”
