The 2019 Teachers’ Games has hit a record breaking 2,730 registrations since inception in 1996, a 15 percent increase on the previous attendance record.
The annual, multi-sport event will be held from the 22 to the 25 September 2019 and will feature 39 different events such as beach volleyball, netball, AFL 9s, Dragon Boating, Archery, and more.
These events will take place throughout Geelong and the Bellarine, utilising our waterfront, beaches, and world class sporting facilities.
Geelong staged the very first Victorian Teachers’ Games in 1996. That inaugural event featured around 1000 competitors including legendary Australian distance runner Steve Moneghetti and Geelong footballer Garry Hocking.
The City last played host in 2007. The event will also return to Geelong for a special 25th anniversary in 2020.

Geelong has clearly proven a very popular choice of host venue, with this year’s games attracting 15 percent more participants than any previous event.
We’re looking forward to seeing almost 3000 teachers enjoying themselves in our region between 22 and 25 September 2019.
The program has been designed to make the most of our beautiful bay and beaches, with beach netball and volleyball, surfing, stand-up paddle boarding and even a bomb diving contest at Eastern Beach as part of the schedule.

The Victorian Teachers Games is a famously social occasion, meaning the event will provide a tremendous boost for our local economy.
Our restaurants, bars and pubs will be very busy as nearly 3000 teachers unwind after each day’s sporting competition.
The program also includes visits to several of our major attractions, including an Old Geelong Gaol ghost tour, brewery tour, Bellarine winery and cider tour, and a behind-the-scenes visit to Kardinia Park.
