Tech helps upskill Townsville musicians

Townsville City Council is partnering with QMusic to deliver QMusic Connect, a series of free online workshops and masterclasses to help upskill local musicians to get them ready to get back on stage after the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown period.

QMusic Connect masterclasses will be delivered via Facebook Live, with Masterclass One on Thursday, 30 April.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said this was a timely opportunity for musicians who wanted to learn new skills.

“This is a difficult time for so many people working in the entertainment sector. QMusic Connect is delivering masterclasses so that all of our talented local artists can learn the business skills behind a successful music career,” Cr Hill said.

“There will be six masterclasses delivered for musicians to attend virtually. Being able to use this period of self-isolation to learn new skills and connect with other up-and-coming musicians is a great opportunity.

“I hope to see many musicians emerge from the lockdown period with an arsenal of tools to help further their careers.”

Cr Hill said this wasn’t the first period of adversity local musicians had faced recently.

“QMusic Connect was initially meant to run as part of the North Australian Festival of Arts, however due to social distancing restrictions the festival has been postponed,” she said.

“We have a very resilient artistic community here in Townsville, who have managed to rebuild following last year’s monsoon event, and I am confident that they will come out of this period strong.”

The QMusic Connect masterclasses run until 4 June.

Townsville City Council joins City of Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast Council and Cairns Regional Council to deliver QMusic Connect to regional Queenslanders.
