Mayor Stephen Batty is calling on all golfers, local businesses, and residents to get behind The Mayoral Charity Golf Day, raising funds to fight homelessness on the Mornington Peninsula.
Mornington Peninsula has the highest rate of homelessness in Victoria. With long-term rental vacancies scarce and the few available properties out of reach for many.
Mayor Councillor Stephen Batty emphasised that homelessness is not a problem happening somewhere else. “Local families and elderly residents are increasingly being forced to sleep in cars and on our foreshores,” Cr Batty said.
“Every dollar raised on the day goes straight to the local support centres doing the hard work of getting people off the street and into safety.
“Golfers, please register your teams to play in the four-ball Ambrose event to win some great prizes and participate in the silent auction where there are some great items up for grabs.”
Local businesses are encouraged to participate too. For $2,000, sponsors receive two branded signs at their hole, a complimentary lunch, and recognition as a supporter of a vital local cause – plus the option to enter a team of four golfers for the price of three. Businesses can also donate items and gift vouchers to the silent auction.
Everyone is welcome to attend the event; numbers are limited, so book in soon! Golfers can register for $250, which includes a round of golf and lunch, while those wanting to support the cause without playing golf can attend the lunch only at $100.
All funds raised will be donated to community support centres in Rosebud, Mornington and Hastings, supporting people experiencing homelessness across the Peninsula.
