New rules mean aged care residents waiting for a means assessment can pay for residential aged care home accommodation by:
- refundable deposit (upfront lump sum)
- daily payment
- a combination of both.
Before the rule change, residents waiting for a means assessment could only pay with the daily accommodation payment.
A means assessment helps older people understand:
- how much they will pay for care in an aged care home
- whether they will receive financial hardship assistance.
Providers can accept any payment option The amount charged cannot exceed the agreed accommodation payment amount.
