Construction of a new shared path along Taylors Creek Reserve in Wallan will begin on Wednesday 11 November, with works expected to be completed by early March 2027.
The project will deliver a new concrete shared path along the western side of Taylors Creek, connecting Watson Street to Taylors Lane and providing a safer, more accessible route for pedestrians and cyclists.
The works will also include raised pedestrian crossings at Watson Street and Almond Avenue.
Construction will be delivered in two stages, with the first stage scheduled to run from 11 November until the Christmas break.
This stage will include construction of the raised pedestrian crossing at Almond Avenue and the shared path between Almond Avenue and Taylors Lane.
Works will resume after the Christmas break, with stage two covering the shared path between Almond Avenue and Watson Street, as well as the raised pedestrian crossing at Watson Street.
These works are expected to be completed by early March 2027, weather permitting.
Traffic and access changes
Roadworks on Almond Avenue is scheduled to begin on Monday 16 November, with a reduced speed limit of 40km/h and temporary traffic lights in place to manage traffic.
Almond Avenue will also be closed for one to two business days to allow for asphalting and line-marking. The specific closure dates will be communicated to motorists through electronic signs on Almond Avenue.
Pedestrian access may be temporarily restricted in parts of Taylors Creek Reserve and around active work zones, with detours and signage in place to help people safely navigate the area.
Temporary fencing will also be installed along nature strips in King William Drive and King Street, as well as within Taylors Creek Reserve, to protect important cultural heritage sites during construction.
Construction activity will generally take place between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, with a temporary site compound established within Taylors Creek Reserve.
The full construction project is made possible thanks to $1.688 million from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund and $736,000 from Council.
The project will improve pedestrian and cycling connections through Wallan, making it safer and easier for the community to access and enjoy Taylors Creek Reserve.
