Grants Helping Pastoralists Build Stronger Businesses

  • Seven pastoral stations across the Murchison, Goldfields and Gascoyne to receive $75,000 each
  • Funding to support improved grazing management, land restoration and new technology
  • Cook Labor Government backing a more sustainable and resilient pastoral industry

Seven pastoral stations across Western Australia’s Southern Rangelands will each receive $75,000 to improve land condition, strengthen their businesses and invest in more sustainable grazing practices.

The Cook Labor Government’s Southern Rangelands Revitalisation Program is supporting pastoralists in the Murchison, Goldfields and Gascoyne to put new land management approaches and technologies into practice.

The grants will support a range of projects, including fencing to enable more effective grazing management and pest control, earthworks to improve water retention, and new watering points to better manage grazing pressure.

Other stations will invest in drones and digital technology to monitor vegetation and livestock movements, as well as new livestock handling facilities to support rotational grazing and reduce labour costs.

The seven stations join an earlier group of grant recipients already putting improved land management practices into action through the program.

A key part of the initiative is sharing knowledge and results with other pastoralists, creating a network of demonstration sites to help identify what works across the Southern Rangelands.

Grant recipients have also completed training with land and business management experts, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to deliver their projects and improve long-term business performance.

The announcement comes during the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists, recognising the important role pastoralists play in managing WA’s vast landscapes and supporting regional communities.

Comments attributed to Agriculture and Food Minister Jackie Jarvis:

“Healthy rangelands and strong pastoral businesses go hand in hand, and these grants will help station owners invest in both.

“From better grazing systems and new watering points to drones that monitor land condition, these are practical projects that can make a real difference on the ground.

“One of the strengths of this program is the opportunity for pastoralists to learn from each other, sharing what works and helping more stations improve the way they manage their land.”
