A teenage boy has been charged after four alleged break and enters in the state’s north last week.
Between 3.50am and 4.15am on Saturday 18 July 2026, officers attached to Port Stephens/Hunter Police District and Brisbane Water Police District were called to four properties in Telarah and Avoca Beach, following reports of break and enters.
At a home on Wentworth Street, Telarah, police were told an unknown number of individuals gained access to the house before taking two sets of car keys and leaving the scene in one of the vehicles belonging to the property – a white Suzuki sedan.
At three properties in Avoca Beach – located on Avoca Drive, The Round Avenue, and The Round Drive – police were told an unknown number of individuals attempted to gain access to the homes but were unsuccessful and left the scene.
Following inquiries, about 5am on Tuesday 21 July 2026, officers attached to Oxley Police District were called to a petrol station on Bridge Street, Tamworth, after reports the allegedly stolen sedan failed to pay for fuel.
About 8.30am (Tuesday 21 July 2026), officers attached to Oxley Police District – with assistance from the Western Region Operations Support Group – attended a property in Westdale and located the allegedly stolen sedan.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested at the property and taken to Tamworth Police Station.
The 13-year-old was charged with eight offences,
- Armed with intent to commit indictable offence (three counts)
- Aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence-people there (two counts)
- Break & Enter house etc steal value less than or equal to $60,000
- Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and
- Dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception
He was refused bail and appeared before a children’s court on Wednesday 22 July 2026, where he was further refused bail to reappear on Wednesday 29 July 2026.
Brisbane Water Police District Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Matthew Stingmore, said “this arrest is the result of great work conducted by Brisbane Water Police District, Port Stephens/Hunter Police District, Oxley Police District and both Western and Northern Region Operation Support Groups.”
