A teenager will appear in court today after assaulting police while in custody at Penrith Police Station, for an unrelated matter, yesterday.
About 11pm (Friday 13 September 2019), police attempted to move the teenager from a cell into a police vehicle when she became violent.
While resisting police attempts to move her, the 16-year-old girl bit one sergeant on the thigh and kicked her in the face, while also scratching a constable on the arm.
About 12.10am on Saturday (14 September 2019), officers attached to the Public Order and Riot Squad attended, and with the assistance from NSW Ambulance paramedics, the teenager was restrained and conveyed to Nepean Hospital for medical assessment.
She was charged with two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, assault police officer in execution of duty without causing actual bodily harm and intimidation.
She was refused bail and will appear before a Children’s Court today (Saturday 14 September 2019).
The two police officers received minor injuries and were assessed at Nepean Hospital; however, they did not require hospitalisation.
