Teenager charged after armed robbery at Wollongong

A teenage girl will appear in court today charged over an alleged armed robbery at Wollongong yesterday.

Just before 6.30pm (Wednesday 6 September 2023), a person – wearing a face covering – entered a store on Park Road, Woonona, and allegedly threatened two employees with a knife before stealing three bottles of alcohol and fleeing.

Police were notified with officers attached to Wollongong Police District attended and established a crime scene.

The two employees were not physically injured, and detectives commenced an investigation into the incident.

As part of inquiries, investigators attended Nicholson Park where a teenage girl has attempted to flee.

The 15-year-old was arrested, at which time she has allegedly assaulted officers. She was taken to Wollongong Police Station.

During a search of the park with the assistance of the Dog Unit, officers located and seized a knife. It will be forensically examined.

The teen was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon and two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty.

She was refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Thursday 7 September 2023).
