Teenager charged after pursuit; drugs seized in Maroubra

A teenage boy will appear in court today charged with traffic and drug-related offences following a pursuit in Sydney’s east yesterday.

About 10.15pm (Saturday 21 August 2021), officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were patrolling Marine Parade, Maroubra, when they noticed the driver of a Volkswagen Golf allegedly speeding.

A pursuit was initiated when the vehicle allegedly failed to stop when directed by officers.

A short time later, the Volkswagen crashed into an unoccupied parked vehicle on Garden Street, before the driver and passenger exited the vehicle and allegedly fled the scene on foot.

Following a foot pursuit, the 17-year-old driver and his passenger, 16-year-old boy, were arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station.

Police searched the vehicle and seized cocaine, cannabis and $2700 cash. A short time later, officers executed a search warrant at the driver’s home in Maroubra, where they allegedly found and seized 494 grams of cannabis and $13520 cash.

The driver was charged with a number of offences, including:

  • Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
  • Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
  • drive motor vehicle while licence suspended
  • three counts of possess prohibited drug
  • Two counts of supply prohibited drug
  • Deal with property proceeds of crime
  • Not comply with noticed direction re s 7/8/9

He was refused bail and is due appear before a children’s court today (Sunday 22 August 2021).

The passenger was issued a $1000 Penalty Infringement Notice for breaching the public health orders and released pending further inquiries.
