Telecommunications tower engulfed in Cranbourne West

Crews from Cranbourne and Frankston responded to the incident.

The incident was listed as under control at 1.57am.

The fire had impacted a telecommunications structure before it spread and damaged the 20-metre tall high voltage power line structure above.

AusNet arrived on scene to cut power to the impacted structures and CFA crews monitored the incident and supported personnel to extinguish the fire safely.

District 8 Commander Paul Summons said CFA crews did a great job and put safety first.

“Intervention at the scene was timely because if the tower had collapsed on the lines it could have impacted a larger area of power,” Commander Summons said.

A stop was issued at 4.02am.

The cause of the fire will be investigated later this morning.
