Planning is continuing for the relocation of Access Canberra to the Woden Library building in 2027, with a tender now open for the design and construction of refurbishment works.
The project will bring Access Canberra Woden Service Centre and Woden Library together in a co-located community hub in the heart of the Woden Town Centre, ensuring residents continue to have access to both services close to home.
The project will reconfigure and enhance the existing government-owned building to support both services, with improvements such as enhanced wayfinding and updates to customer facilities.
Woden Library will remain on the ground floor, while the Access Canberra Woden Service Centre will operate from a dedicated customer service centre on level 1.
As part of the refurbishment, some study spaces currently located on level 1 will likely be relocated to the ground floor. Existing community rooms on both levels will continue to be available for community use, with some minor changes being considered to make better use of available space.
The Service Centre will retain 12 service counters and continue to be an inclusive and supportive space for Canberrans to undertake government services and transactions.
Infrastructure Canberra is working closely with Libraries ACT to maintain a welcoming, accessible and functional experience for users. The project will help create a better integrated community facility, supporting access to library services, government services and community meeting spaces in a single location.
The tender opened today, 25 September, and will close on 29 October 2026. Following the tender and evaluation process, a head contractor will be appointed to work with the ACT Government on the detailed design before refurbishment works begin.
