Third Thursday Book Club 10th Anniversary

Hawkesbury Library Service is pleased to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Third Thursday Book Club!

The Third Thursday Book Club began back in September of 2010, starting with just a handful of people who wanted to meet new friends and connect through reading. Since then, it’s grown to include close to thirty members, with new people joining every year. The book club meets on the third Thursday of the month, from 10am to midday at Hawkesbury Central Library, 300 George Street, Windsor.

Julia Beaver, a long-time volunteer with Hawkesbury Library Service, has run the book club for the past 10 years. She commented that the book club “is a wonderful opportunity to discover new books, new authors and new friends”.

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings, the book club members have decided to hold off on their planned anniversary celebration until early next year, when Hawkesbury Library Service will host a celebratory morning tea for its members.

Hawkesbury Library Service recognises the value of social connectedness through reading and supports this by hosting two open book groups as well as maintaining a book kit collection.

A second book club, the Tuesday Night Book Club, meets on the third Tuesday of the month, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Rozzolli Meeting Room, ground floor, Deerubbin Centre 300 George Street, Windsor.

The book kit collection housed at Hawkesbury Central Library includes over 30 book kits available for loan to book clubs who have registered for a special membership card. Any local book club can apply for membership at a cost of $80 for a 12 month period. The kits are stored in a convenient carry bag and contain 8-10 copies of a book title, as well as suggested discussion questions.

Congratulations to the Third Thursday Book Club on their 10th anniversary! Anyone interested in joining either of the book clubs or registering their own book club should contact the library on (02) 4560 4460.
