Thornlie Aggravated Armed Robbery

Armadale Detectives are continuing their investigation into an aggravated armed robbery that occurred at a home in Thornlie on the morning of Wednesday, 23 January 2019.

Around 11.40am, the victim, a man in his 70’s (a retired police officer) and his wife, aged in her 60’s, arrived at their home address on Wicklow Street in their vehicle and saw a gold coloured Mitsubishi sedan parked in their driveway. The victim got out of the vehicle and walked towards the front door. A woman ran from the house and got into the driver’s seat of the Mitsubishi sedan, starting the engine, closely followed by a male in possession of a rifle.

The man, pointed the firearm towards the victim and pulled the trigger. The victim heard a click, the male cocked the firearm and a projectile ejected out of the side of the firearm and onto the ground. The male hurriedly got into the front passenger seat of the Mitsubishi sedan, which reversed up and drove away towards Warton Road. As the vehicle drove away, the man again pointed the firearm towards the victim.

Police attended a short time later at it was ascertained that three firearms were stolen from the home, along with ammunition, cash and tools. The wife of the victim suffered a stress related heart attack and required hospitalisation.

As part of their investigation, detectives have charged a 22 year old woman from Thornlie with Aggravated Armed Robbery and Aggravated Burglary. She is next due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday 8 February 2019.

Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the man involved in this violent incident. The man is described as having dark brown skin, 22-30 years of age, approximately 175cm tall, thin build, dark dishevelled hair and dark coloured eyes. He was wearing dark clothing.

Detectives are asking for anyone with CCTV footage from the area on the day of the incident between 9am and 2:30pm, as well as dash-cam footage particularly along Yale Road, Spring Road and Thornlie Avenue, Thornlie between 11:00am and 2:30pm.
