Thousands of families still on housing list as government continues to fail

Tasmanian Labor

The hands-off Rockliff-Ferguson Government continues to fail thousands of the most vulnerable Tasmanians with even more families now languishing on the housing wait list.

The government’s own data shows more than 4,450 families are now stuck on the government’s historically unprecedented wait list as the government fails to deliver on its big housing promises.

And those families who are considered a priority will now remain on the list for more than 68 weeks as the average wait times again blow out.

That waiting time has increased by 10 weeks over the past year alone.

It’s just staggering that the Rockliff-Ferguson Government and Housing Minister Guy Barnett are prepared to ignore the dire state of Tasmania’s housing crisis, making huge promises but utterly failing to deliver.

This imploding government headed by a weak Premier has ignored the housing crisis they created for the best part of a decade and are now engaging in a hopeless game of catch up with big promises they fail to deliver. Their promises keep getting bigger but they amount to little more than a cruel hoax.

If Mr Rockliff and Mr Barnett are to deliver on their promise to build 10,000 new homes over the next decade, they should be delivering three homes a day – every day – right now.

The fact is, they are not.
