Three arrested as police seize firearm and nearly $21,000 of illicit substances

Three men have been arrested and charged with drug and firearm offences after Prahran Divisional Response Unit detectives concluded two separate investigations, seizing a firearm and $20,700 worth of illicit substances.

The first investigation kicked off on Wednesday 18 January after detectives observed suspicious activity at a residential address on Market Street, South Melbourne at about 4.30am.

A short time later, police observed a man get into white BMW at approximately 4.30am. Police attempted to intercept the vehicle at Coventry Street, however the driver evaded police.

After a thorough investigation, police executed a search warrant on Market Street, South Melbourne on 4 April at about 9am, arresting a 44-year-old man and a 39-year-old man, both from South Melbourne.

The 44-year-old South Melbourne man has been charged with drug trafficking and possess cannabis, MDMA, methylamphetamine, GHB, and negligently deal with the proceeds of crime.

He has been bailed to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on 1 June.

The 39-year-old South Melbourne man has been charged with possess GHB and cannabis. He has been bailed to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on 26 June.

A 27-year-old woman and a 31-year-old woman, both from South Melbourne were also arrested at the time and later release pending summons.

A second investigation was launched on 16 March after a concerned member of the community reported suspicious activity at a residential property on Greeves Street, St Kilda.

This led to police executing a second search warrant in Greeves Street, arresting a 50-year-old St Kilda man who has been charged with prohibited person possess imitation firearm, possess methylamphetamine, possess prescription medication, negligently deal with the proceeds of crime, burglary, theft, and commit an indictable offence while on bail.

A 47-year-old St Kilda woman was also arrested and later released pending summons.

Across the two days of action, police seized:

– An imitation firearm.

– Approximately 300 grams cannabis with an estimated street value of $6,000.

– Approximately 25 grams methylamphetamine with an estimated street value of $8,750.

– Approximately 13 grams MDMA with an estimated street value of $2,600.

– Approximately 651 mls GHB with an estimated street value of $3,000.

– Approximately one gram cocaine with an estimated street value of $350.

– Approximately $10,600 worth of allegedly stolen designer clothing items.
