Three drivers have lost their licences for three months each after they were caught driving at more than 45km/h over the speed limit in separate incidents in the Royal National Park yesterday.
Officers from Sutherland Traffic and Highway Patrol were conducting stationary speed-enforcement duties on Lady Wakehurst Drive yesterday (Saturday 30 May 2020), and caught the drivers over a three-hour period.
The first driver was stopped about 8pm when a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo was detected travelling at 131km/h in the sign-posted 60 km/h zone. The driver, a 34-year-old Minto man, was fined and he also had his licence suspended for six months and his number plates confiscated for three months.
The second driver was stopped shortly after 10pm, when a Holden Commodore was detected travelling at 109km/h in the 60 km/h zone, and allegedly overtaking another vehicle in the same direction, while crossing double unbroken lines. The driver, a 19-year-old Lakemba man, produced a P2 Provisional New South Wales driver’s licence. He’s been issued with fines for speeding and not keep left of dividing lines and his licence has been suspended for six months. He was not the owner of the vehicle.
The third driver was stopped about 11pm, when a Ford Falcon XR6 was detected to be travelling at 127km/h in the 60 km/h. The driver, a 34-year-old Earlwood man, has had his licence suspended for six months and his number plates confiscated for three months, as well as being fined.
Each driver was issued an infringement for motor vehicle exceed speed limit by more than 45km/h with a penalty of $2482 and six demerit points.
Two other drivers have been given Traffic Infringement Notices after being detected more than 30km/h above the 60km/h speed limit.
