Three injured after car crashed into river in Campsie

Three men have been taken to hospital after a car crashed into the Cooks River at Campsie overnight.

About 3.30am (Monday 28 September 2020), emergency services were called to Fifth Avenue after reports a car had driven into the Cooks River.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command attended and located a Honda Jazz in the water.

Police have been told the car was travelling along Burwood Road when it crossed into the southbound lane before crashing through the barrier and going into the water.

The driver and two occupants – all men aged in their 20s – managed to get out of the vehicle and have been taken to hospital for assessment. The driver will also undergo mandatory blood and urine tests.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway.
