Three men arrested on serious drug charges

Two people will appear in court after a cross border drug trafficking operation was shut down by police.

Yesterday, Detectives from SAPOL’s Serious and Organised Crime Branch (SOCB), assisted by the Western Australia Police progressed an investigation into the alleged trafficking of methylamphetamine between South Australia and Western Australia last year.

In July 2022, Western Australia Police seized over 40 kilograms of methylamphetamine during searches at East Perth and Scarborough. As a result of this, two people from Western Australia were arrested and they are currently before the court.

Following on from these seizures, Western Australian and South Australian Detectives have been investigating the origins and movement of the drugs between States.

On 13 September 2023, Detectives from Serious and Organised Crime Branch arrested a 36-year-old man from Angle Park, and a 58-year-old man from Seaford. They have been charged with two counts of trafficking a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug. They were both refused bail and will appear in court later today.

A third person, a 30-year-old man from Morphett Vale was also arrested for fresh offences. This followed the discovery of 850g methylamphetamine, over $82,000 cash, a cash counter, a taser, 15 vials of steroids and 20 strips of suboxone at his Morphett Vale address. He was subsequently charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of a controlled drug, two counts of trafficking a controlled drug, money laundering, possessing a dangerous article and possessing prescription drugs. He was also refused bail and will appear in court today.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Hubbard, officer in charge of the Drug and Organised Crime Task Force says, “The impact of methylamphetamine on our society is well known. The drug is highly addictive, can destroy lives and tear families and communities apart.”
