Three new play spaces officially open for fun

Families across the region are encouraged to explore and test out new play equipment that has been installed at Viaduct Park, Moore Creek and the Tamworth Sports Dome.

The construction of these play spaces commenced in April in 2023 with the help of $745,000 in funding from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

As part of the Viaduct Park Master Plan, the design of the sheltered playground combines the heritage of Tamworth’s train viaduct with modern accessibility. The placement of playgrounds at Tamworth Sports Dome and Moore Creek further aim to provide important play spaces beyond Tamworth’s CBD.

Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce said the projects were funded under round three of the previous Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, which helps regional communities have first rate facilities.

“Tamworth is a growing city and to support our growth it is important that community infrastructure reflects the needs of the community with public amenities that also provide ease of access,” Mr Joyce said.

“It is further delivering for the people of Tamworth and the New England, this is another part of social infrastructure that is deserving for an electorate that contributes so much to our nation and I’m happy to have played my part”. Mr Joyce said.

Mayor Russell Webb is grateful for the support of funding from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

“Council are continuing to explore ways we can help lift the standard of accessibility and infrastructure across all townships and villages within our region. These installations are just the beginning of the playground upgrades we’d like to make in our community,” said Councillor Webb.

“Whether they’re visiting our region for the day or they are living in our community, I hope that children of all ages and abilities can have fun and enjoy the spaces that we have created for them.”

The Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across the nation, supporting jobs and delivering benefits to local communities.
