Three youths charged after attempt carjacking – West Tamworth

Three youths have been arrested after an attempted carjacking and assault in the state’s northeast on Monday.

About 4pm Monday (26 June 2023), six youths approached a woman and a young girl sitting in a car at a carpark on Quinn Street, Tamworth.

One opened the driver’s door and allegedly hit the woman in the head, face and arm with a metal pole, while two others attempted to drag her out of the car, before she was able to shut the door and drive from the area.

Emergency services were notified, and the 50-year-old woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before she was taken to Tamworth Hospital for treatment of a concussion, cuts and bruises.

The 14-year-old girl was not injured.

Following extensive inquires, police arrested three boys, a 14-year-old and two 12-year-olds. They were taken to Tamworth Police Station where they were all charged with attempted aggravated assault with intent to take motor vehicle in company.

Whilst in police custody, the 14-year-old boy allegedly assaulted police with a chair and was also charged with assault police.

They were all bail refused to appear before Children’s Court today (Friday 30 June 2023).

Investigations are ongoing.
