Tickets available now for Big Things in Store

The Big Things in Store event is back. The Australian War Memorial is opening the doors to its storage facility in Mitchell to the public on Saturday 5 March.

A limited number of free timed tickets to the Big Things in Store event have been released and are available to book now on the Memorial’s website: https://www.awm.gov.au/visit/exhibitions/bigthingsinstore

Held at the Australian War Memorial’s Treloar Technology Centre in Mitchell, this event is a unique opportunity for members of the public to experience a behind-the-scenes look at the Memorial’s extensive collection. It includes aircraft, rockets, vehicles, tanks, artillery and equipment used by – or against – Australians for over a century.

This year, visitors also have the opportunity to take a closer look at the F/A-18 Classic Hornet aircraft – a new addition to the Memorial’s collection which was retired after more than 30 years of service on 9 June 2020. The much-loved G for George, Avro Lancaster Mk I Bomber, will also be on display at the event.

“An event like Big Things in Store allows people, young and old, to gain a deeper understanding of our nation’s military history,” said Australian War Memorial Director Matt Anderson.

“It allows people to see more of the collection for a limited-time than what’s currently on display. We’re always interested in providing the public further opportunities, in many different ways, to engage with the Memorial’s collection.”

Big Things in Store was last held in 2019 and all visitors (including minors) will require a free timed ticket to attend this year’s event with two hour sessions available to book from 9am. To ensure the safety of visitors the event will be in line with ACT Government health directions at the time.

To avoid disappointment, members of the public are encouraged to book their free ticket early.

The Memorial appreciates continued support from Boeing Australia for this year’s Big Things in Store event.
