Central Goldfields Shire residents are being urged to prepare their properties for the upcoming fire season.

Residents should prepare their properties by:

  • Clearing undergrowth and fallen branches
  • Moving firewood away from the house
  • Cleaning leaves from gutters
  • Ensuring that grass is cut

To help prepare for summer, Council is offering free green waste drop off for residents at the Carisbrook and Dunolly transfer stations every weekend from Saturday 24 October 2020 to 29 November 2020.

No matter where you live in Central Goldfields Shire – whether you’re in a town or on a farm – your property is likely to be at high to extreme bush or grass fire risk, CEO Lucy Roffey said.

“Take the time to increase your understanding of the fire risk where you live, prepare your property, and talk to your loved ones about what you’ll do to stay safe from fire,” she said.

Households will receive letters shortly as a reminder about the upcoming fire season.

Council’s Fire Prevention Officer will soon be inspecting properties to ensure they are ready for summer.

Fines will be issued to those who do not properly prepare their properties for the upcoming fire season.
