Toby tracks tradie’s tools

Two offenders have been tracked down by police dog Toby this morning after they tried to get away with a tradie’s tools in Doreen.

The incident unfolded when a man woke to noises out the front of his house on Overland Drive about 1.50am.

He went to check what was going on and found two men breaking into his utility attempting to steal some of his tools.

The man gave chase before stopping to pick up a set of keys believed dropped by the pair as they fled.

The offender’s car was found by the man nearby before he raised the alarm and called police.

Local police attended along with the Dog Squad.

Police dog Toby along with his handler quickly made a v-line towards some bushes in parkland where the pair were found hiding.

The two 22-year-olds from Mickleham and Craigieburn are currently assisting police with their enquiries.

Toby searched the surrounding area and also recovered some of the victim’s tools including power drills, handheld saws and batteries.

A search of the offender’s car uncovered what is believed to be a homemade ‘taser’ and multiple other items suspected as stolen.

Epping police are investigating and have a number of enquiries to make in relation to the other property found.
