Tools worth more than $80,000 recovered; man charged, NSW

A man will appear in court today charged after tools worth more than $80,000 were recovered from a home in Sydney’s south-west.

About 7am yesterday (Sunday 10 May 2020), a man returned to his utility, parked in The Avenue at Canley Vale, and found all his power tools had been stolen.

Police will allege in court that the man found the stolen tools advertised for sale on a social media site later that day.

The man notified officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command, who commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, investigators arrested a 27-year-old man at a home in Kiora Street, Canley Heights, about 3.45pm yesterday.

A short time later, officers executed a crime scene warrant at the property, where they located a large amount of power tools and construction equipment, alleged to have been stolen.

These items include saws, hammer drills, chainsaws, lawn mowers, surveying equipment, demolition hammers, and six 20L buckets containing various hand tools.

These items – which have been valued at more than $80,000 – have been seized to undergo forensic examination.

The 27-year-old man was taken to Fairfield Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of goods in custody suspected of being stolen, deal with proceeds of crime, attempt to dispose of stolen property, larceny, and enter vehicle without consent of owner.

The Canley Heights man has been refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court today (Monday 11 May 2020).

Inquiries continue into the ownership of the tools; anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
