Toowoomba Mayor joins CoMSEQ delegation to Canberra this week

Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald will join nine other mayors across South-East Queensland on a delegation to Parliament House in Canberra this week.

The delegation is being arranged by the Council of Mayors (SEQ) and will include meetings with key decision-makers on both sides of the political spectrum.

Mayor McDonald said he would attend a reception hosted by the Singapore High Commissioner ahead of Toowoomba’s historic display in the Flower Dome of Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay, which starts next month.

“This delegation is focused on several key issues facing our region, namely infrastructure to unlock housing, cost-shifting, including growth challenges placing strain on SEQ Councils, including the Toowoomba Region, SEQ City Deals, Brisbane 2032 challenges and opportunities, resilient Rivers, and Waste Management, to name a few.

“I’m also delighted that I’ll be attending a reception hosted by the Singapore High Commissioner, which is very timely given the Toowoomba Region’s historic display in the Flower Dome at the Singapore Gardens by the Bay attraction getting underway next month.

“The Toowoomba Region values our membership and involvement with the Council of Mayors (SEQ) and this delegation is yet another example of Mayors working together to further the interests of our broader region collectively,” Mayor McDonald said.

Meetings are scheduled to be held with Treasurer Jim Chalmers, Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations Senator Murray Watt, Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen, Minister for Housing and Homelessness Clare O’Neil, Leader of the Opposition Peter Dutton plus other Shadow Ministers.
