Total Fire Ban for Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central, North East, and East Gippsland on

A Total Fire Ban has been declared for tomorrow, Monday 25th January 2020 for the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central, North East, and East Gippsland.

A TFB means that no fires can be lit in the open air or be allowed to remain alight in the open air, including campfires and burn offs, between midnight tonight and 11.59pm tomorrow.

The Fire Danger Rating is Severe in the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central, and North East. The FDR is Very High in East Gippsland, however a TFB has been declared due to the high fuel loads in the area, with hot and dry weather, and high winds expected tomorrow.

State Response Controller Chris Eagle said the severe heatwave conditions across the state are expected to build tonight to a spike day tomorrow.

“The next 24 hours is the most significant fire risk Victoria has seen this season. “Any bushfires still going when the gusty change comes through will make it challenging and dangerous for firefighters on the ground.

“On a Total Fire Ban day no fires can be lit in the open air, meaning all campfires, even for cooking purposes, are banned.”
