Total Fire Ban for South West on Saturday 2 March

No fire can be lit in the open air, or be allowed to remain alight, between 00:01AM and 11.59PM tomorrow.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting another hot and dry day tomorrow with temperatures reaching the 40s in the top half of the state.

Tomorrow’s Fire Danger Rating is Severe in the South West and Very High in the rest of the state.

State Response Controller David Bruce said the fire risk continues tomorrow so people need to ensure they are prepared.

“While technically summer ended yesterday, the fire risk remains and it is important that everyone remains vigilant and doesn’t light fires in the open tomorrow,” he said.

“There were18 new fires in the east of the state that started from lightning last night with more thunderstorms with dry lightning expected later today.”

“The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting very hot temperatures continuing through the weekend without much relief from the heat overnight, meaning if we have fires in the landscape they could challenge firefighters,” he said.

“Stay aware of your surroundings and if you’re travelling or in unfamiliar places, make sure you are aware of the local risk. Know how to stay informed and never rely on one source for emergency information.”

Heat Health Alerts remain in place for the Central District for today and tomorrow.

“Back to back days of extreme heat, coupled with high overnight temperatures, can interfere with your body’s natural ability to cool down,” he said.

“Drink plenty of water and check in on others. Look after those most at risk in the heat – your neighbour living alone, the elderly, the young, people with a medical condition and don’t forget your pets.
