Townsville City Council has urged the region’s animal owners to go paperless and receive their pet’s renewal notices straight to their inbox instead of their mailbox.
Council Business Services and Governance Committee chairperson Margie Ryder said now was the paw-fect time for Townsville pet owners to make the switch to receive their animal renewal notices digitally via Council eNotices.
“With animal renewal notices due to go out soon, we’re urging our residents to do their part for the environment and go digital,” Cr Ryder said.
“Currently, only six per cent of renewal notices are sent electronically and the remainder by mail.
“Receiving renewal notices by traditional mail is slower, more expensive for ratepayers and less environmentally friendly.
“Digital notices are delivered on the same day they are issued and can be stored in your email inbox for record-keeping.
“It is easy to make the switch. Council has laid out a step-by-step guide on its website to help residents opt to receive their animal renewal notices electronically. While there, residents can also sign up to receive their rates notice to their inbox.”
Community Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability Committee chairperson Maurie Soars said more than 36,000 cats and dogs were registered across the Townsville region.
“Animals play an important role in our community by providing companionship and security,” Cr Soars said.
“While there are many elements to being a responsible pet owner, making sure your animals are registered and microchipped ensures there is a much higher chance of your furry friend being found and returned if it escapes.
“Registering an animal also gives Council valuable information on where pets are located to help plan for any future infrastructure like off-leash dog parks.”
Animal Renewal Notices will be issued on 28 July 2022.
