The Australian Festival of Chamber Music in Townsville is set to receive $25,000 from the Palaszczuk Government to help attract artists to the region next year as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations.
Member for Townsville Scott Stewart said the Australian Festival of Chamber Music is one of 13 projects to share in more than $400,000 under the Queensland Arts Showcase Program.
“It is wonderful that the Australian Festival of Chamber Music is receiving funding to help support their 2020 festival,” Mr Stewart said.
“This special program will include new music by leading Australian composers and attract international artists to Townsville next February.
“It will also feature a collaboration on a new dance work by the renowned Townsville Dance Company, Dancenorth.”
Member for Mundingburra Coralee O’Rourke said the Australian Festival of Chamber Music is something to look forward to.
“The 2019 program just recently finished, and it saw five world premieres and five Australian premieres across more than 30 events in Townsville,’ Ms O’Rourke said.
“I’m excited to see what the 2020 program has in store!”
Gavin Findlay, Executive Director, Australian Festival of Chamber Music said the grant will enable AFCM to fully realise the suite of commissions Artistic Director Kathryn Stott has planned for the Festival’s 30th anniversary.
“Commissioning new music has long been a feature of AFCM’s program, but the funding will enable us to continue to push the envelope, broaden appreciation of Australian music and to support more Queensland artists in the commissions program,” Mr Findlay said.
Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said that this September marks the fourth year of the Palaszczuk Government’s incredibly successful grants program.
“Since 2015 the Queensland Arts Showcase Program has supported more than 360 vibrant arts and cultural projects across the State with more than $12 million,” Minister Enoch said.
“These projects connect communities through rich storytelling and provide a way for people to explore and unpack complex issues.
“This latest round of projects highlights some amazing work being undertaken across a range of artistic disciplines, including visual arts, theatre, comedy and cabaret.”
