Trail bike rider charged with traffic offences in Riverina

A man disqualified from riding has been charged with traffic offences after allegedly being caught riding an unregistered trail bike in the state’s Riverina.

In the early hours of yesterday morning (Monday 14 June 2021), officers attached to Traffic South West Puma Regional were patrolling Ashmont, in Wagga Wagga, when they detected two trail bikes allegedly being ridden at high speed along Connorton Street.

Officers did not engage in a pursuit, but conducted a foot patrol of the area, before they saw a man riding an unregistered trail bike at speed and without a helmet.

Soon after, officers attached to Riverina Police District heard the bike enter a premises on Bululo Street, Ashmont.

South West Puma officers attended and seized the bike.

The 32-year-old rider underwent a roadside drug test, which allegedly returned a positive reading to methylamphetamine. Further analysis will be conducted.

Checks revealed he had been disqualified from riding until September this year.

He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station, where he was charged with drive/ride whilst disqualified, and ride unregistered and uninsured cycle.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Monday 28 June 2021.
