The NSW Government’s Isolated Patients Travel and Accommodation Assistance Scheme (IPTAAS) will be extended for patients impacted by bushfires, which will help cover out-of-pocket expenses.
The IPTAAS provides subsidies for transport and accommodation expenses for patients traveling over 100km, or a total distance of at least 200km in a week for medical appointments.
The scheme will make a difference to patients and their families having regular cancer treatments who haven’t been able to return home due to road closures or poor air quality and have been forced to spend more on accommodation and travel.
The scheme supports over 30,000 patients and its investment has doubled in the past seven years, from $12.2 million to $29.9 million.
