This week I will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to lead Australia’s delegation to the G20 Trade Ministerial Meeting.
This meeting brings together Trade Ministers of the largest 20 economies to address a range of international trade and economic challenges.
Australia has a seat at this table, and I will be using it to prosecute Australia’s interests.
Australia is a trading nation. Now more than ever, we need to work with our international partners to tackle the shared challenges and opportunities ahead.
Our prosperity depends on Australian businesses being able to rely on rules-based trade to compete on a level playing field, reach global markets, and remain competitive. Growing global tensions and protectionism have shaken the foundations of our global trading system, and I will press our partners to agree on practical cooperation to keep trade flowing.
My meetings with counterparts are key to delivering for Australians and will include discussions on energy security, and new market opportunities for our farmers, producers, exporters, and businesses.
More trade means more higher-paying Australian jobs, more opportunities, more income for Australian businesses, and more resilience to trade disruptions.
I also look forward to meeting EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič to discuss the implementation of our new Free Trade Agreement.
The Australian Government will continue to defend our interests, support our exporters and work for a global trading system that is open, fair and fit for the future.
